When you close one end of the caliper on the wall of your bowl, you can read the thickness at the other end of the caliper.

These are an indispensable addition to the turner's armory for measuring both wall thickness and diameters. Because of their design the measurement taken at one end automatically transfers to the opposite end. This enables the turners to take an accurate measurement reading without the need to remove the calipers. Measure the exposed end whilst the other is still in contact with the work. Opens up-to 11 inches.
